With an Avon-style distribution program, Solar Sister combines the breakthrough potential of technology, including micro-solar lighting, mobile phone charging and other clean-energy solutions with a deliberately woman-centered direct sales network. Women become Solar Sister Entrepreneurs, earning income to lift themselves and their families out of poverty and providing access to clean, affordable solar light to their communities.
     
  
www.nokero.comNokero (short for No Kerosene) makes affordable solar light bulbs and cell phone chargers for communities living without access to electricity. Formed in June 2010, Nokero has since delivered more than 250,000 solar lights to over 100 countries around the world. The Nokero N200 solar bulb, featured in the Smithsonian’s Design for the Other 90% traveling exhibition, is rainproof, portable, and inexpensive - designed specifically with the budgets of off-grid communities in mind. Reaching these communities is often the greatest challenge, which is why Nokero is built on a model of partnership and collaboration. Nokero forms partnerships with local businesses, governments and non-profit organizations that deeply understand local needs, and we bring cutting-edge technology to complement their missions. Nokero lights and chargers are being deployed by humanitarian aid organizations in the aftermath of natural disasters, they are being sold in clean energy stores in Haiti, at hawker’s markets in South Africa, through a chain of bread bakeries in Fiji, and by door-to-door saleswomen in Uganda. Around the world, Nokero provides a compelling small business opportunity for entrepreneurs, spurring local enterprise and reducing poverty, while at the same improving health, greening the environment and empowering communities.

http://www.elementalled.com/reach/REACH (Reduce Energy & Contribute to Humanity) is a philanthropic program created by Elemental LED, a San Francisco Bay Area LED lighting company, that offers communities free education on the benefits of energy conservation and donations in the form of energy efficient LED lighting. Through the REACH program Elemental LED donates LED lighting to nonprofit groups, schools and community centers and hosts energy conservation and sustainability workshops within the community.  REACH donated to the "Life Without Lights" project in an effort to increase awareness of the importance of adopting energy efficient technology into our lives and across the world.
